Sa nécropole sur la colline de Monterozzi comprend plus de 6000 tombes souterraines qui conservent des fresques exceptionnelles. La nécropole de Cerveteri est la plus impressionnante de toute l'Étrurie avec ses fameux tumuli du VII ème siècle av JC. Grand centre de la civilisation étrusque, la nécropole s'étend sur plus de deux kilomètres. Ses tombes monumentales sont en partie creusées dans le tuf. Le but de ces édifices était d’illustrer le désir d’une poignée de familles aristocratiques de se prononcer sur leur richesse et de perpétuer un mode de vie de la plus haute qualité même après la mort.
