Day 3: Navigation on Lake Gatùn - Isla Monos

Our driver will pick you up after your breakfast to go to Gamboa and more precisely the Gatun lake. Forty minutes from the city, you will immerse yourself in the secrets of the dense tropical forest crossed by the Rio Chagres which supplies the canal and Lake Gatún with water. It is also the favorite place of many animals. Indeed, the impressive diversity of flora is the source of food for all kinds of animals such as the coati, howler monkeys, squirrels and sloths, as well as magnificent birds such as the toucan. You will embark on a small boat (lancha) and explore this immense artificial lake surrounded by mountains created between 1907 and 1913 by the construction of the Gatún dam (second largest artificial lake in the world). You will navigate between different islets whose lush vegetation is home to certain animal species. With a little luck and patience you will see capuchin monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, various birds etc. You will also go to the shores of Isla Monos (the monkey island), who sometimes, not very shy, come to greet you on the boat. During this walk of about two hours, you will also navigate part of the Panama Canal where you will come across different big ships. Once the excursion is over you will be taken back to the hotel or to a point in the city that you want to spend the rest of your day as you wish - overnight at hotel in Panama City.
