The Republic of Uzbekistan extending between the Amu Daria and Syr Daria rivers, Uzbekistan has a rich architectural heritage. Its centuries-old towns and several historic Silk Road centers bring together most of the splendid buildings of Central Asia. Uzbekistan has a border with Turkmenistan to the west, Kazakhstan to the north and east, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and a small part of Afghanistan to the south. The country, with an area comparable to that of Sweden, is essentially made up of steppes and deserts and a little more pronounced relief in the east. Two-thirds of the country, mainly in the west, made up of steppes and deserts, is interrupted by the Amu Darya Delta, which empties into the Aral Sea. The reliefs are more pronounced in the east towards the mountains located in the bordering countries, where the sources of the rivers which irrigate the country are located. The most important river in Central Asia, the Amu Darya, largely acts as the border with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The most fertile lands, where the majority of the population lives, are located in the valleys, near the alluvial plains and the three rivers.

Its climate in spring (April to June) and autumn (September-October) are in principle the best times to travel to the country. It is mild in April and the desert has a brief flowering period. In autumn, harvest season, the markets are full of fresh fruit. For trekking in the mountains, the summer period (July-August) is the most suitable, but the weather remains unpredictable and there can be snow on the passes. Its climate is characterized by considerable temperature variations. The temperature can reach 20 ° C. There are also important differences between desert and mountainous areas. In the plains, the climate is pleasant from May to early June and from September to early October. In summer, the temperatures are stifling: it is over 40 ° C in Tashkent, and 50 ° C in the south of the country. In winter (January-February), daytime temperatures fluctuate between 5 and 10 ° C.
