Journée 1: Monreale et Ségeste

Arrivée du groupe . Départ pour Monreale sur les hauteurs de Palerme. Visite de la Cathédrale de Monreale, une splendeur de l’art de la mosaïque, dotée d’un programme iconographique très riche valorisant le pouvoir spirituel et politique des rois normands notamment de Guillaume II. Visite du cloître attenant, avec ses colonnes géminées et ses fameux chapiteaux. En début d’après-midi, visite du site de Ségeste avec son temple et son théâtre qui domine le golfe de Castellammare. Capitale des Élymes, elle fut convoitée par les habitants de Sélinonte et les carthaginois. Visite du temple construit à la fin du V ème siècle av JC. Départ pour la région d’Agrigente.

Journée 2 : La Villa Romana et Agrigente

Petit-déjeuner à l’hôtel. Départ pour Agrigente pour la visite de la Vallée des Temples. Agrigente fut l’un des centres les plus prestigieux, fondée par les colons de Gela au VI ème siècle av JC elle devint vite un centre du négoce. Ses temples témoignent de sa richesse et de son pouvoir. Un des temples les mieux conservés est celui de la Concorde. Visite du musée d’Agrigente avec sa collection somptueuse de cratères, son télamon, des maquettes du temple de Zeus olympien et l’ecclésia antique. Continuation vers Piazza Armerina pour une visite de la Villa Romana del Casale, un lieu unique pour la conservation de sa mosaïque romaine, à voir des scènes de chasses, de pêches, ses baigneuses en bikini, le vestibule d’Ulysse et Polyphème… Route vers la région de Catane.

Day 3: Syracuse and Ortygia

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Syracuse for the visit of the city and its archaeological site with his fabulous theater where Aeschylus' play "The Persians" was presented, latomies with the ear called Dionysius, the altar of Hieron, visit to the archaeological museum which houses magnificent sculptures, architectural elements, a large number of statuettes found in Syracuse, Megara Hyblaia, Leontinoi. Visit of the Ortygia peninsula with the fountain of Arethuse, the cathedral of Santa Lucia, the temple of Apollo one of the oldest of the peripteral Doric style of the 6th century. At the end of the day return to the hotel.

Journée 4 : Etna et Taormine

Petit-déjeuner à l’hôtel. Départ en direction de l’Etna pour la découverte du Mongibello « la montagne des montagnes ». C’est le plus haut volcan d’Europe en activité, sa masse occupe une surface d’environ 1250 km2. Vous accéderez à la Sapienza où se situent les monts Silvestri. Une découverte historique, mythologique et géologique du volcan. L’après-midi visite de Taormine, avec son théâtre grec et ses ruelles, une des villes les plus touristiques de la Sicile. L’été elle accueille un festival de musique très prisé. Puis route vers Palerme. Installation à votre hôtel en région de Palerme.

Day 5: Palermo

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit of the city of Palermo, you will discover the magnificence of the Palatine Chapel® which is in the Norman Palace, former home of the eponymous kings, today it houses the Parliament of Sicily, an independent government of Italy. You can admire the church of Saint John of the Hermits with its cloister, its vegetation and its cupolas in eunuch's bonnet. Cathedral, the 4 Canti, the piazza Pretoria with its “Fontana della Vergogna”, its baroque churches like Saint Catherine or the Norman period with La Martorana….Palermo Archaeological Museum ...
Lunch in the form of a packed lunch.

The course of our circuits is given as an indication.
